Mary-Alice Herbert for Vice-President

Political: Between 1984 and 1996 Mary Alice was a candidate of Vermont's Liberty Union Party for the state legislature and several times for Vermont Secretary of State. In 1996 she ran against Howard Dean for governor and took him to task for opposing a single-payer health plan supported by his fellow Democrats in Vermont. She ranked third in a field of eight candidates.

Professional: Taught in public schools in Delaware, North Carolina, and Vermont. Retired after 25 years of teaching in Brattleboro, Vermont in 1996.

Educational: B.A. in Education and Social Studies from High Point College, North Carolina in 1956 M.A. in Women's Studies and Early Childhood Education from Antioch New England in 1970.

Personal: Born Feb.28, 1935. Married in 1956 to Fred Herbert who died in Oct. 2002. Mother of four children and grandmother of one.
